Guest Speaker on the @HeyBuzMe Show
“Wah stresnya…”
It seems like we can’t talk about career updates without talking about stress. Last month I had the chance to speak on a podcast about stress – a common word we hear associated when we talk about career. But this one specifically on e-hailing drivers. What we can learn is this:
1. No matter what job you have, it doesn’t hurt to be kind. As I talk to the hosts – Amira and Shah outside of recording, I learned that there are so many e-hailing drivers are in circumstances that could use some extra kindness. Think struggling single mothers, young adults being laid off, and more. It reminds me that we realllllyyy don’t know what’s going on in somebody’s life.
2. I should probably (sometimes) turn off my “Quiet” mode Many who started their job as e-hailing drivers actually do it because they also enjoy talking to new people. But so many of us are now avoiding that at all cost. As a mental health practitioner, I also know how important it is to feel connected. Maybe, having short conversation could help make someone’s job easier too.
3. Don’t let short-term solution become a long-term problem Many of us develop unhealthy habits due to work demands (e.g. skipping meals, not sleeping), especially if you are paid per hours. Working for that extra hours can help a lot. However, when it goes off balance that compromises our health, it can create bigger problems in the future. I remember saying to Shah: If you are sick, then who can take care of your family?
Let’s not let stress take a toll on our well-being. Together, we can create a community where we support and uplift each other, making the challenges of everyday life a little easier to bear ✨
What are some of the ways you help someone’s job feel easier. I’ll go, I do my best to cleanup when I check out from an airbnb or hotel.
